Comics!

At around two o clock in the morning, they start playing 'Girls Gone Wild' commercials, and me and lene have some variation of this conversation pretty much every time I'm over her house. Click to make it bigger, as always.

The Creative Process.

If you've somehow managed to miss it (lucky you), Twilight is a series of books (and now a movie) about a morose mood swinging vampire named Edward Cullen, who despite being 118 years old, still goes to high school. You're 118! GET A JOB! These are a few career suggestions.

Experiment

I was playing around with the brush tool in illustrator, and I think it could definitely be a fun way to ink digitaly- the first one is just the brush tool, and the rest are the brush tool + a textured brush.

Adventures in feminist art

This one got a little wordy, so click on it to enlarger & read. The Dinner Party was actually really interesting, incorporating traditional feminine handcrafts- embroidery, china painting, weaving, etc- into a piece of very political (particularly at the time) art; plus there's always the fun of recognizing the names and discussing who'd be at your own dinner party. Some of the other pieces on display... well,at the very least Disney wouldn't be pleased.

Freeze Ray. Tell your friends.

MY DIPLOMA FINALLY CAME IN THE MAIL TODAY! No more F.I.T! In other super news, I saw the new batman movie- the Joker is fantastic, genuinely funny & creepy without being camp- and I have succumbed to the internet phenom Dr Horrible's Sing Along Blog. Will I one day post art that ISN'T fan art? Will I do something useful with my degree? Stayed tuned! Same cal time, same cal blog.

JC Leyendecker in the hizouse!

A few sketches from the JC Leyendecker show thats up at the society of Illustrators. Its awesome to see his work in person- the vibrancy of the colour, the luciousness of his brushwork & surface- and there's much more humour than one would suspect if one is only familiar with his handsome man paintings. Granted, alot of the humour is of the 'its funny cuz she's fat!' variety.

Hellboy

I saw both Hellboy movies recently & really enjoyed them- a good balance of fun characters and really interesting visuals. I think this is the first time I've really inked something in photoshop; still kind of clunky but i guess that's a matter of practice.
