I was playing around with the brush tool in illustrator, and I think it could definitely be a fun way to ink digitaly- the first one is just the brush tool, and the rest are the brush tool + a textured brush.

ive been experamenting with the same thing! I tried making a bush stroke and scanning it then turning it into a vector object in illustrator. After you make it a vector you can create a brush from it. So you can actually make a brush that looks just like your pen stroke. im becoming obsessed!!!

ooh, this is cool. lends a rougher look to illustrator.
