Whats with these homies dissing the Frans, why do they got to front?

Went sketching at the Met the other day & saw the Age of Rembrandt show. Dutch portraiture is wonderful; even if the sitter has a face like a potato, the handling of paint and the inner character that shines through is amazing. Poor Frans Hals got no respect- all the old ladies in the gallery made a little moue when they saw his name instead of Rembrandt's on the wall label.
The last lady I just like cause she looked so un-amused; I suspect the enormous floofy bonnet has something to do with it.

Two Queens and Pirate

The pirate is a little painting in acrylic, and the two Queen Elizabeths were drawn while watching The Queen- Helen Mirren was awesome :D

Staten Island guys

wooo, art from wayback! Really old stuff I had scanned in- the portraits of my folks are from elementary school, as is the james & the giant peach fan art (before I even really knew who lane smith was!). The easter scratchboard is jr high I think, and the uh, 'homage', to manet is early high school. Its funny to see what's changed, and what hasn't, between what I did then and what I do now.

Fish!

A few watercolour & ink studies of fish; I'm trying to experiment with papers- rougher textured, hot press vs cold press- to see what I like best. I'm also learning to knit, and finished the little purple dude this afternoon. The unibrow was the best part.

More stuff from italy!

Some more drawings from the sketchbook! The black ink ones were done in the signoria, a place that was everything you could hope in a drawing spot- seating, lots of tourists to surreptiously sketch, interesting statues to draw if the tourists were sparse, street musicians, and conveniently located gelato :D The mermaid and sailor were done on the placemats of the pizzeria across the street from our pensione.
